DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Sept. 15, 2008) – Though Talladega
and Martinsville rank highest in the “Wild Card of the Chase for
the NASCAR Sprint Cup” discussion, Dover deserves a mention.
A lot can – and often times, does – happen at Dover.
In each Chase season (2004-2007), the points lead changed hands
after Dover.
In 2004, Jeff Gordon took it from Dale Earnhardt Jr. In 2005,
Jimmie Johnson took it from Tony Stewart. In 2006, Jeff Burton
took it from Richard Childress teammate Kevin Harvick. Last
season, Gordon took it from Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jimmie
Johnson.
It wouldn’t be surprising if it happens once again this weekend
– and just like the last two years, the swap may be between
teammates.
